"Off To A Flying Start"

Aimed at newly elected Councillors, or those who have not previously attended training, and newly appointed Clerks and Council Officers, this course will give an overview of what a Parish Council is, its statutory duties and powers.

Registration will be required to attend and will open prior to the election date in May.

This session is for councillors only and is designed to give them a greater understanding of their duties with regard to the council’s finances.

Being A Good Employer: The Essentials

A comprehensive review of both the practical and legal considerations for Councils in their role as Employer, including:

1. Conducting a successful recruitment exercise.
2. The legal requirements of inductions.
3. Producing legal Employment contracts that suit the needs of the Council.
4. Managing Sickness and Absenteeism.
5. Dealing with Grievance and Disciplinary issues.

Chairs' Training

A comprehensive training for people wishing to or already appointed as Chair.

The following areas will be covered:

• Leadership as Chair of a Parish / Town Council
• The legal powers and duties of the Chair
• Managing meetings
• Public participation
• Being a good employer
• Civic role

New Clerk's Finance

This introductory session is for inexperienced clerks in their first few months and is designed to give them an overview of a council's year, along with a basic understanding of the RFO's role.

If you have 9 month's experience or more, this session is unlikely to cover anything you don't already know. Please leave this session for very new clerks and book yourself onto the more detailed sessions on budgeting, Internal Control, Year-end and VAT instead.

Off to a Flying Start Plus

A training presentation for new parish and town councillors to introduce you to the basics of parish and town council business. This is a slightly longer and more detailed version of Off to a Flying Start and is a 2-hour presentation we shall look at the definition of the council’s purpose; review the roles of the people involved in the council; place the council into its geopolitical context and identify procedures for meetings, managing the council's finances, and planning.
