Parish and town clerks should be, “equipped with the necessary skills to thrive within their role and best support their council and community” (SLCC:2020). As a new clerks you are never alone. As member officers of WALC/CALC you can access this essential training and knowledge by attending the Clerks 1, 2 and 3 training courses. Aimed at an introduction to parish and town councils and your role within the council,  giving you the confidence to guide your council and carry out your duties lawfully.    

This session for new clerks and those wishing to refresh their knowledge, will outline the roles and responsibilities of the Council as a whole, covering the Clerk, Councillor and Chairman.

Ruth will explain Standing Orders, Financial Regulations and statutory documents and their importance. She will also cover the election and co-option procedure, and touch on neighbourhood plans and planning.

Ruth Mullett  07967 501943 Ruth has been a Parish Clerk since 2007 when she joined Hunnington Parish Council in Worcestershire and the previous year taking on Romsley the adjacent parish. She is also locum for Worcestershire CALC, as well as undertaking various other locum roles in the past .Ruth is Associate Trainer for Worcestershire CALC and Warwickshire CALC and a member of the Internal Audit Team. She is passionate about local government and the parishes she is clerk to, as the first tier of local government it is wonderful to see what a difference can be made in our communities. She is also a member of the Society of Local Council Clerks and has been elected to represent Worcestershire on their Forum. Ruth is CiLCA qualified and has obtained a First Class Level 6 BA Hons Degree in Community Governance in partnership with the SLCC and De Montfort University.
